A couple weeks ago I asked you which term you preferred – employees or associates. I must admit, the results were a bit surprising. The majority of respondents said employee and associate are the same thing.
The surprising part was the gap between the actual terms “employee” and “associate” [click graph to enlarge].
The comments on this post focused on corporate culture and mutual respect. I totally agree. I’d even add that there’s an argument to be made that job titles and corporate nomenclature are mostly just marketing tools.
But one thing is certain: whether it’s team member, outfitter, or crew, the people who work at your company want a title they can be proud of.

There is little validity to the results here, since you asked HR folks what “others” like to be called. So the responses are really what those HR responders “think” others want the be “called.” If you actually asked those who are called by those titles, the result might be significantly different.
